- TUCUMAN is located in the Northwest of the Argentine Republic, between parallels 26 and 28 South Latitude and meridians 64'30". It covers 22.524 Km2 and it is the natural geographic center of the region for communications, for its social life, for its economy and also because of its population: 1.142.247 of wich 475.000 people live in the capital city. TUCUMAN is 540 km from the Pacific Ocean in a straight line, 1.050 km from the River Plate and 1.400 from the Atlantic Ocean. We arrived in Tucumán full of anticipation but not necessarily expectation. For what it's worth, however, I have been to the Running of the Bulls in Spain, Midsommer celebration in Sweden, Spain's version of carnival, and a Snoop Dogg concert. So I do have (un)naturally high expectations for celebrations that have a tradition. At noon, from our hotel room, we heard the first of many explosions so we knew it was time. We grabbed our boxes of wine and headed for the masses of people in the plaza. Spanish language school in the historic centre of San Miguel de Tucuman. The volunteer opportunities are important for the foreign visitor studying Spanish who has perhaps not yet mastered the whole language, and are ideal for honing comunication skills in an environment where the student has to communicate.
